Everest Academy is a ministry of Everest Family Church in Hayden. We offer freedom along with quality resources, information, activities and support to those homeschooling in Alabama. We believe that the parent has the best interests of their children at heart. We believe that the parent is the first and only teacher that a child needs. In keeping with this philosophy, we wish to be a very hands-off church "cover" school and allow the parent to lead and guide their children in the direction and at the pace they feel is best suited to their children. We ask only for what the law requires while offering support along with quality resources to aid families in their efforts.

    Mexican Alligator Lizard Birthday Bash
    When: Saturday, May 1 from 10 am - 3 pm
    Cost: FREE for Members* or with General Admission
    Join us in celebrating the 2nd birthday of the endangered juvenile Mexican alligator lizards that were born at the Museum in May of 2019. Get an up-close look at the juveniles. Come learn more about these amazing lizards and what makes them special! There will also be a craft station, a behind the scenes video about the juvenile Mexican alligator lizard, and the Ask Me About Animal Sheds Cart.

        All About Her
        When: Saturday, May 8 from 10 am - 3 pm
        Cost: FREE for Members* or with General Admission
        Come spend the day at the Cook Museum and celebrate your mom or the other special adult females in your life. Explore the Exhibits, take advantage of the special photo station, and visit the coloring and card-making craft station.  There will even be a small gift for her to take home (for the adults, while supplies last).
          World Turtle Day
          When: Saturday, May 22 from 10 am - 3 pm
          Cost: FREE for Members* or with General Admission
          Love turtles?  Come celebrate World Turtle Day at the Cook Museum of Natural Science and learn all about turtles!  Enjoy Q&A with Animal Care presentations, learn about how the Animal Care staff tend to the turtles at the Museum, see videos of the Museum’s diamondback terrapins, and more.

            Insect Pinning Workshop
            When: Saturday, May 29 at 10 am & Noon
            Cost: $30 (+ tax), $5 Member Discount
            Ages: 12 and older
            Come join us at the Cook Museum for another hands-on insect pinning workshop! This workshop is for all levels. Participants will learn insect orders & anatomy, how to ethically collect & preserve insects, and learn the scientific pinning & labeling methods. Each participant will take home a box of pinned insects, including a bee from the Museum’s colony. Each family group will have their own socially distanced table at which to work, whether you purchase one or more kits.
