Jacob Edington, a Senior at Everest Academy, has been awarded the EAA Ray Aviation Scholarship. This award will allow him to complete the training and flight hours necessary to earn his Private Pilot License (PPL) during his Senior year in high school.
Jacob has been dancing with a professional ballet company for the last three years, and he took this year off from dance to focus on his flying. His goal is to graduate high school with his PPL and attend university to study Aviation and Aeronautics. Jacob has been a member of Chapter 179 of the Experimental Aircraft Association the last two years, and with this organization he has been able to volunteer with Young Eagles Flights, help organize regional Fly-Ins, and participate in aircraft builds. The EAA has local chapters throughout the US, and is a welcome and encouraging place for motivated youth who have a passion for flying.
Jacob appreciates that homeschooling has given him the freedom and the tools to set his own goals, set his sights high, and make it happen. He also wants to thank EAA Chapter 179 for being a welcoming and supportive part of his endeavors, and Deb Spradlin (administrator of Everest Academy) for coming alongside him and being a source of ideas, opportunity, encouragement, and energy during his homeschooling years.
