Thursday, January 12: Herpetology- Snakes, Turtles, Lizards, and Frogs with Green Snake Education, $15 per person
The North Alabama Agriplex is kicking off its 2023 programs with its Secondary Homeschool series on January 12, 2023. The spring program lineup includes agriculture and environmental education workshops once a month on Thursdays. The fall programs will be a Makers Series with monthly hands-on project based learning.
2023 is the second year for the middle school and high school based homeschool series at the Agriplex. Participants have traveled distances to attend these classes including Blount, Morgan, Madison, Jefferson, Marshall, Shelby, and Lamar Counties. Parents may accompany their student in the program or drop off their student. In 2022, programs included Livestock Care, Spring Herbs for Health, Art in the Garden, Foraging with Southern Herbalist Darryl Patton, Alabama Mushrooms, Campfire Cooking, and more!
On Thursday, January 12 from 12:00-2:00pm, Green Snake Reptile will present a live animal show at the North Alabama Agriplex. Green Snake Reptile is an education company run by Herpetologist Jay Eubanks. Herpetology includes animals from the classes Reptiles and Amphibians. Alabama has an extremely diverse population of both reptiles and amphibians. Jay will bring native and non-native animals to show the diversity of these cold-blooded animals. https://www.

Thursday, February 2: How to Be A Field Biologist Jessie Taylor from the International Crane Foundation will be presenting “Name that Adaptation” and “Be a Field Biologist”. These are interactive presentations that teach students how cranes adapt to their environments and what it would be like to work as a field biologist for a day.
Thursday, March 2: Backyard Poultry: Family Flock Care with Sierra Hicks, Animal Nutritionist with the Alabama Farmers Cooperative
Thursday, April 6: Hands On Gardening with Rachel Dawsey: Get your hands dirty at the Agriplex gardens while learning basic gardening skills, painting garden markers, and taking seeds and plants for your home garden.
Thursday, May 4: Forestry 101- Tree Identification, How Trees Grow, Why is Forestry Important and Careers, Tim Thornhill, Registered Forester at LP Building Solutions
August 24, Makers- Pitcher Plant Mini Bog Make and Take, $50 per bog, Max 25
September 7, Makers- Casting Natural Materials in Resin Art, Sonya Boyd, $15
October 5, Makers- Alabama Pottery, Rebecca Horner from Keramos Ceramics, $20, Come learn the step by step process of making pottery. Students will make Alabama ornaments.
November 2, Makers- Tandy Leatherwork Class, $30
December 7, Makers- Catching Rain- Rain Barrel Make and Take with Alabama Cooperative Extension’s Rhonda Britton, $50 per rain barrel, $10 student with no rain barrel
